We are happy to announce that SMIT "CREATOR" members were participating in the Youth Exchange project called In Your Shoes – Youth Exchange on Sport and Inclusion co-ordinated by TDM 2000 International.
“In Your Shoes – Youth Exchange on Sport and Inclusion” gave the opportunity to a group of 60 young people from different European countries to meet, discuss, promote and experience how
sport activities can support and facilitate the inclusion of youngsters with fewer opportunities. The participants met in Sardinia, Italy, and stay together for 8 days, discussing about the
exclusion-inclusion patterns in their societies, especially referring to what happens in the world of sport and young people. The main product of the exchange is a “Guidebook for Sport and
Inclusion”, that will contain different rules, pictures, stories and successful examples about how sport can be important in the process of inclusion of marginalized youngsters. It
was designed and realized by the participants during the exchange and be available to be distributed in their countries and communities. The youngsters had the opportunity to experience
different sports and know more about it and the world around it, talk with some of the main actors on the field, and be involved in different activities through the methodology of non-formal
education, with methods that will include round tables, group discussions, simulation, theatre, role play, presentations, and anything that can stimulate their participation and
creativity.

In Your Shoes - Youth Exchange on Sport and Inclusion was my first youth exchange project. At first I was a little bit anxious about whole exchange idea but during this 8 days on Sardinia I discovered how amazing it could be to meet people from all over the world, to learn different cultures and to participate in so huge project.
During the exchange we had no time for boredom. We discussed and did a lot of activities connected with the topic of sport and inclusion. Some of them were about feeling an exclusion others about preventing it. All of them were amazing opportunity to integrate with other participants and to know each other better.
This project let me improve my language skills, get knowledge about exclusion problem and showed me how we can fight with it. I met there many amazing people and I’m sure that my adventure with youth exchanges have just begun.

20 -28.08.2014 is one of that periods of my life that I will remember for a long time.
In that time I took part in youth exchange in Cagliari thanks to TDM International – the host organization and SMIT Creator which gave me the opportunity to join that wonderful project.
‘In your shoes’ exchange was focused on sport as a tool to act against different kinds of exclusion (exclusion on poverty, ethnicity, etc.). During the week we used a lot of semi formal methods of education to explore the main topic and to experience inclusion and exclusion while playing group games and sports. We have discussed, presented our opinions and shared ideas – everything in international group of young people – with enthusiasm and energy. I am thankful that I could take part in the youth exchange in Cagliari. Thanks to it I met a lot of people from different countries: Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Romania, Germany, Latvia, Greece, Czech Republic,
Slovakia and from my homeland – Poland and made new friends around the Europe.
What is more, I had the opportunity to explore very important topic of exclusion – inclusion and left Italy with a lot of ideas how to use sport as a tool to act against this phenomena. I could also get the
general impression of exclusion in participants countries.
I am very happy that I was the part of the project and I will recommend such as exchanges to everyone. Youth exchanges give us the chance to integrate among young people from UE, break stereotypes, make friends and explore important topics. My batteries are now charged – until the next project!

In Your Shoes – Youth Exchange on Sport and Inclusion” was my first Youth Exchange project and definitely not the last one. I spent eight amazing days in beautiful Cagliari (Sardinia) with 60 people from 10 european countries. During this eight days we had a lot of workshops, international dinners, nights out, sport day, beach day and free time. Our accommodation was student house in the centre of Cagliari (the view was really nice from there).
On this project I've learned how to work in groups. I've improved my english. I've met people I will never forget. I have been sightseeing through beautiful italian city.
The time which I spent in Cagliari was absolutely memorable and amazing. I would recommend to everyone to take part in Youth Exchange project with SMIT Creator!

I got a chance from “Creator” Association to take part in an amazing project which was held from 20th till 28th August in Cagliari - the capital of Sardinia. It was a pretty big exchange; there were sixty people from ten different European countries, working on sport and inclusion issues throughout one week.
The main aim was to promote sport as a tool against exclusions, to encourage people to carry a healthy lifestyle and create a guidebook based on these themes; all was done by many activities like team building, outdoor sport exercises, meetings, discussions.
Most of our time was filled with non-formal sessions but contained a lot of different activities as well. It was e.g.: discovering the city, going to wonderful beaches, visiting sports club, meeting with journalist and preparing international evenings with surprising presentations (which included tradition, music, dance and tasting national food and drinks.)
We learned from each other by sharing our experiences and ideas. We tried to find out new methods of how to cooperate as a group as well as how to work effectively but it was way more than just gaining knowledge.
For me it was more like discovering OURSELVES; trying to find a way how to contribute in a team work, how do we actually feel being a part of the group and what is our role in it; what are our expectations, fears and how do we handle it.
This aspect was the most valuable for me; I discovered many new things about my personality and how much I can give from myself. I realized I really deserve all of those things, and also that I wasn’t there random person – I was there for some reasons! Maybe I achieved that because I had been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone.
When we are “dropped” into multicultural community and surrounded by people from totally different background we learn not only tolerance but also respect. We make friends, build national consciousness, improve language skills, self-confidence, creativity, break barriers and stereotypes which basically might lead to change a bit (or totally!) our thinking and viewpoint.
Being abroad even for a short time gives us so many possibilities; I could look at my life from a different perspective and gain some distance. I’ve become richer and more insightful with my new experience. I’ve seen gorgeous places, I’ve met inspiring people... and honestly, thank to them, I feel more open-minded now.
Even though it didn’t last long and this kind of projects are definitely not a vacation, we had a lot of fun there! We could relax and forget about problems left at home for a while.
I truly appreciate that I could participate in this awesome event and meet all of these amazing people!
“Tell me- I’ll forget, show me- I’ll remember, involve me- I’ll understand.”
…so open your mind and heart, take a risk, stay positive and keep discovering! And most of all – don’t be afraid to make decisions.

"In Your Shoes" - probably the best youth exchange I have a pleasure to participate in! Whole week spent on sunny Sardinia was for sure the most exotic adventure in my life. Thanks to whole participants, but especially to Polish team, I enjoy every second of this project. The presentation of our country in my opinion was the most entertaining show I have ever prepared. Whole team was struggling in a short time to complete every part of it and I think all of as has improved their own team-building and team-working skills. However, the organisation could be better prepared for a project that was mainly concerned about the sport - I was expecting a little more actual sport activities that could integrate participants even more. Apart this, I am thankful that I have had an opportunity to be there and I cannot wait to be a part of another project like this

Project „In Your shoes – youth exchange on sport and inclusion” aimed to involve 60 young people from ten EU countries into discussion about the role of sport in social life, especially this connected with its impact on inclusion process. The participants had also an opportunity to learn more about sport as a tool they can use during their further initiatives.
The project took place in Cagliari which is the capital of Italian region Sardinia. The accommodation was in a local university’s dormitory. It was a perfect venue for such a project due to spacious conference room and spaces for outdoor activities. Short distance between Casa dello studente and city centre allowed the participants to do some sightseeing in this historical city. Some of the attendants were not happy with the non – diversified meals, but the organisers answered those remarks and offered wider variety of food in the second part of the project.
The idea of letting each national group to prepare sessions on given topics turned out to be very good – workshops were diversified and interesting thanks to that and participants took part in them with pleasure. A process of intercultural exchange and integration was observed, especially during activities held in small groups. Moreover, preparing a guidebook on the role of sport in inclusion was also proceeded quickly thanks to precise instructions given by the organisers. Working on the final outcome of the exchange was a good idea as a summary of everything the participants had done during that project. Evaluation was also prepared in a very professional way and everybody had a chance to speak his/her mind.
The activities that were not directly connected to the topic of the exchange usually took place in the evenings and were a great opportunity to go deeper into intercultural exchange along with acknowledging the Sardinian culture. Two intercultural evenings were prepared with astonishing creativity – some participants described them as the best activity during the exchange. Additionally, going out to the city centre was also very popular. It is worth mentioning that participants did not stick to their national groups but were happy to make new friendships then.
It is also necessary to point out that the volunteers from TDM 200 International were always helpful and well-prepared for every session. The work of Thomas Norton, volunteer from the UK, is worth special acknowledgement due to his 100% involvement in every aspect of the project.
To sum up, I consider this exchange as very fruitful. Personally, I have learned a lot and met many interesting people.
